My lesson plans are not always written. My lesson plans are not always noted with standards next to them. My lesson plans are individualized with goals for each child in mind. it’s actually pretty easy when you observe and engage with your children
Jazmine and Yael are my only two kiddos that leave this fall for kindergarten. Their needs are different than the others who have another year here.
I do not focus on letter writing or letter recognition. However , when a child is ready and interested I won’t hold them back. Today Jazmine said “ Yael and me never have accidents.” ( We had just read a book called “The Princess and the Potty.) I said , I wonder why… do you think it because you are older ? She smiled and said yes. Just like potty accidents there is a time in each child’s developmental stage that says “ I’m ready .” Jazmine and Yael can often be found in the art center drawing. Today I said “Would you like to work on writing your names?” Excitedly they both said yes. I showed them once.
When they are ready it will happen naturally and without the frustration attached to trying skills too soon.
While I helped them with letter formation the younger children sorted and counted small toys. They don’t realize it – but even that activity is getting them ready to write
