Hopper Hunts For Spring . So Do We.

If you are tired of cold weather clap your hands

If you are tired of cold weather clap your hands

If you are tired of cold weather and you think warm would be much better…

If you are tired of cold weather clap your hands.

Ok, that is it.  Find that ground hog and make some ground hog stew.  I am so ready for warm weather to get here. We did NOT go outside.  It was 30 degrees but the wind chill made it feel like 18.  I  can do most cold days but NOT when the wind is blowing. Brrrr……

It was nice to have the kids come in this morning and hear them talking to each other non stop. They missed their friends.

For circle time today we read the book ” Hopper Hunts for Spring.” Hopper’s mom tells him that Spring is coming and he sets off in the woods looking for him.   He thinks Spring is an animal like him.  After meeting up with a mole and a bear he figures out that Spring is just a time of the year when the temperatures get warmer , leaves start to grow on the trees and flowers start to bloom.

After reading about Hopper the rabbit we made a chart.  The top reads ” if I was a bunny, I would….” as a transition to lunch the kids filled in the blank for me.  Many of them would eat carrots and deliver eggs.  One of my favorites even said to ” all the kids and the Heavenly Father.”

We had two different kinds of art available today.  One was a cutesy rabbit made from paper plates.  Pretty much they glued the pieces on and drew on the nose .  Not a lot of creativity there. but still cute. The kids loved it.

The other art piece was egg shapes taped to the table with a few tape lines over the egg. The kids watercolored on the egg and then we removed the tape.  They turned out beautiful !

We also started a little science experiment on eggs.  One egg is in water. The other egg is in vinegar .  We will watch them all week to see what happened to them.

As of all that wasnt enough  Mr. Randy helped the kids bake a cake, which we will be decorating ( and eating ) tomorrow .

AND… Miss Dallas made new playdoh. The kids got to play with it while it was still warm.  She made it with koolaide and the smell was quite yummy.  If you have never played with warm playdoh, I suggest you try it .

Ingredients

    • 2 1/2 cups flour
    • 1/2 cup salt
    • 2 (4 g) packages unsweetened Kool-Aid powdered drink mix
    • 2 cups boiling water
    • 3 tablespoons oil

Directions

  1. Mix flour, salt, Kool-Aid until blended.
  2. Add oil to boiling water, mix with spoon until cool enough to knead.
  3. Continue kneading until color is blended.
  4. Store in air tight bag or container in the refrigerator.
Some of us even made our names in the playdoh !
It was a great day to be back.  ( FYI almost all the kids LOVED lunch today. It was roast beef and shredded cheddar rolled up in a tortilla! So easy and so much healthier and cheaper than running through a mcdonalds drive thru !)
We had lots of beautiful art today with pastels !
