Community

Today we talked about communities.  Bethany read the story ” Froggy Goes to School ” with them and talked about Froggy’s community at his school.  Then we talked about who is in our community in our school.   If you are reading with your child at home I am sure they have been pointing out some ” parts of books” that each time we read we find. They are the front of the book, the back of the book ., the spine and the title page.  Other things we do as we read is run our fingers across the page from left to right to get the children used to the direction in which we read.

During circle time today we sung a new song. It is to the tune of B I N G O .

There is a place that I call home

A house is it’s name-o

H O U S E

H O U S E

H O U S E

a house is my home- o.

Using songs like this helps with letter recognition. As we sing we point to the letters.   I also told the story of the three pigs.  This story is great for explaining what 1st , 2nd and 3rd means.  The story is also great for teaching stranger danger and other key concepts.

During outside time  Randy and Bethany took the kids on a walk in our community to look for houses, house numbers and other interesting things.  As you can see from the picture, they found a hill to rill down but they also counted windows and looks at shapes on the houses.
