Christmas !

Today we started talking about Christmas .  Well..  the kids started talking LONG ago about Christmas so I should say we started actually doing some Christmas themed activities today !   The first thing we did was talk about ” What is Christmas. ”

Holly was in today for a while so she talked to the kids to find out what they wanted for Christmas.   She typed it up and we pushed it off via email to the Herald Leader. Be looking for your child’s letter.   One thing I do with Geneviette’s is I put it on a colored sheet of paper and laminate it punch a hole and hang it on the tree by a ribbon.  Its makes a perfect ornament that will be treasures years to come.

If you want to know what your child said ….

Dear Santa,

For Christmas I want a slinky and trampoline and some springs to bounce on your feet and a yoyo, and I always want a pet dog.

Love,

Makenzie Wakefield

We did salt dough handprints that I will magically turn into a santa ornament !

Some of our friends painted a Christmas tree !

One of my most prized possessions was out today for play. Years ago one of my artsy moms made me wooden ornaments that depicted the kiddos in our classroom that year.  Each ornament has a child’s name on it and really matches that child’s hair and eyes . The girls have ruffles and the boys have over alls.  Randy has gray hair and a mustache. It is wonderful.  Decorating a miniature tree with tiny ornaments is great fine motor work.

There was a ” days until santa ” comes toy that the kids could play with the numbers.  I told them how many days until Christmas and they would set the numbers in the tray.

We played a math game with jingle bells. The child would roll the dice and would cover up the appropriate number with a bell.  All the kids could count the correct number of dots on the dice and only a few still struggled with finding the number on the tree.

And we read the ” real story ” of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.  Ask your child to re-tell the story to you.
