Day 2 Wrap Up

Today was another really great day. We came inside first to have breakfast. I think coming inside once in a while after drop off will be helpful when we do have a bad weather day. It won’t throw them off. Not to mention, it’s a little difficult to have cereal on the porch.

Today we did our first self-portrait. It always amazes me the difference between the first year preschoolers and the second year preschoolers. Now mind you, it’s not their fault it’s just the physical development of their bodies being able to handle an art tool.

We had our first family time today and practiced a conscious discipline technique. We did a big yellow balloon above our head in honor of our lemonade theme I promise you this works if you will focus on it at home while we do it at school. We also did our first “ lesson” from our purple book which is a phonemic awareness book much like Northside uses. Our rhyme today was “the itsy-bitsy spider .”

I also introduced the light table. Many times when children misuse materials it’s because they’ve never been properly instructed on how to use the material. So the first few weeks I go over every section of our play room and every routine that we follow so that children know what to do. This weekend when Randy was putting together the green house the instructions were very vague and he got very frustrated. I figure that’s how children feel when we have expectations of them but never actually explain what it looks like.

We also did a little science experiment today. Well, we started a science experiment. We talked about germs and put apples in a glass jar. One Apple is untouched, one apple is touch with unwashed hands, one apple is touched after handwashing, one is touched after handwashing with the timer going. We are going to watch the germs grow !

Time to get the kids up. See you in a bit.
