I have been watching the weather all day. Actually for a couple days. We know it’s going to get bad this afternoon so I’m just doing all the things to prepare for it. I’d rather rather be safe than sorry.
When I talk to littles about weather I actually don’t use words like tornado or flooding or dangerous winds. All they really need to know is “it may get crazy but I’m going to keep you safe. “
I think the language we use with children in some cases needs to be very direct but we also don’t want to cause fear.
I remember one year I had a little guy that someone had scared him about storms, and he literally spent most of his days staring up at the sky if it was cloudy.
As adults, let’s make sure we’re ready. Kids don’t have to know- I’m ready.
