In a childled environment your hope as a teacher is that the children gravitate towards something that you can dig deeper into. It can be even more impactful when all of the children are interested in some thing, though it rarely happens. There have been years that we have studied trains the whole year. As I looked through her pictures, I realized that it’s right in front of me.
Almost all of the children have been spending more time in the block center
Since I have expanded the area, the structures are becoming more detailed
They been adding loose parts to their blocks , engaging in creative storytelling as they build.
After looking at all the data from the past year, I think we are going to wrap up our year doing a construction project- or study.
We will still be playing, but I will be adding some construction type small group activities, and adding materials that might be our engagement.
I’m excited about this. The possibilities of things to do with the idea of construction are endless.
