I hope you got a chance to go outside. It is absolutely gorgeous.
I didn’t get a picture in the moment – obviously- but today my allowing rusks so children can learn paid off. In past years I have not let children climb the tree in the front yard. This year I have allowed it as a supervised risk. They can only go to the first branch and only one child at a time.
Today I heard whimpering from that area. I went to investigate. One of our friends was hanging from the branch. He said “ I can’t hold much longer .” I could see the fear in his eyes. I held him and lifted him to the bench. We talked about what might have happened had he fell. Everyone listened.
Risk taking is important. If we are never given the opportunity to experience fear from an attempted risk we won’t learn the value of thinking through harmful situations.
