There are 12 school days left in this year. Where did the time go? I am torn this time of year. Even with my proud boasting of developmentally appropriate practice I get nervous every year about this time. “Are they ready?” I know by looking at the kindergarten readiness indicators the children are ready but knowing many schools are drenched in push down academics and what their preschoolers are taught puts me on edge.
Do we practice more rhyming ?
Or do we just keep reading and know rhyming will happen when each child is ready? You can’t MAKE a child rhyme.
Do we use flash cards to teach shapes ?
Or continue watching their play and realize they already know them. Not only do they know shapes but they can construct them.
Do we teach more literacy or realize they use words in a meaningful way every day . ( Stop sign at the end of the ramp .)
I know they are on target. I’ll just cool my jets.
I’m giving them the best life – a childhood worth remembering.
