There are many times through the day children ask for help. Most times no matter what it is I say “ you try first .” When I jump in I take away a child’s opportunity to learn and become more independent.
Earlier this week I took a picture of Lucy. Lucy is the youngest of our bunch. She smiles now when she asks me for help because she knows what’s coming next. “ You try first and if you can’t get it I’ll help you .”
I did assist a little finding arm holes but Lucy was so excited to put on her own warm shirt before going outside. We haven’t conquered that Elsa dress but we try every day. 🤣
Today I noticed Lucy on the trikes. These are heavy trikes. She was giving it her all.
I coached her a little … push down with the pedal on top .
When she got to the slight slope she even had friends help.
Lucy did not give up. She did not perfect riding this trike but she’s closer to pedaling today then she was a week ago.
Part of our social emotional curriculum is developing persistence and a can do attitude.
