Today on my radar was to begin conversations about what Thanksgiving is. Not really what Thanksgiving is but what being thankful means. We started our discussion this morning with what we are glad we have or what are we thankful for.
When you’re exploring a theme one of the hopes is it by introducing a subject children will take it and run I did not hear Thanksgiving conversation the rest of the day. In this age group we have to get the baseline of what actually being thankful means. We teach our children to say thank you but do they know why? As they get older they can explore the first thanksgiving, and the mayflower, and all of the cultural traditions and questions we all still have about the holiday. Today – we are just talking about thankful. Most times when I tell children thank you I follow it with that was helpful so they understand why I say it.
You know what did become a very important lesson or skill to work on today? Putting on jackets and zipping up jackets.
