I have loved light tables for a long time. Some of my favorite pictures are pictures of children around the light table with mirrors. Light tables can be used to help kids improve their creativity, find motor development, hand eye coordination, and many other skills depending on what the teacher… ( Me) adds to the table.
The light table engages children sense of sight, it’s sensory just like our sandboxes.
At the light table we can introduce new light and color vocabulary such as reflection, prism, secondary colors, and transparent to name a few.
We can also do some color mixing at the white table to show what happens when you combine two colors
After introducing this concept to the children Tatum found me and said “Look! Blue and red make purple!”
It’s also a great area to practice fine motor in a fun way and incorporate early literacy.
But most of all it’s a lot of fun
We also use magnatiles in this area. They stick to the walls. Somehow today the boys talked me into ordering two more sets.
