I have noticed that several of our children are really enjoying using the long board outside to create a ramp. They use it for different things. Some of them use it for balancing on.
Some of them use it to experiment rolling things down the board
Some of them enjoy climbing to the top. When children are higher than everything else it makes them feel powerful.
Arkansas State University and one of my favorite curriculum writers, Marcy White, has a unit called” let’s explore ramps and tunnels” and I think I’m gonna use some of her material to help the children dig deeper in this area.
I believe the children are the curriculum and we follow their lead to figure out what they are interested in. When we teach them basic skills during play with things they’re interested in the learning is heightened.
Has your family had experience with ramps and tunnels? Have you been down a waterslide? Have you ridden on a roller coaster? What experiences do your children have with ramps ? Do you have a family member that uses a wheelchair and a ramp?
I’m excited to explore this area more with the children throughout the next couple weeks
Of course – as usual – I planned for Ramos but hardly any ramp play happened. Remember I promised the kids more magnatiles? Over the weekend two boxes arrived and they were the big hit today.
