Friday is the day that red books go home. In the past children always got excited about carrying their books with learning stories in them home. Parents are usually pretty excited too.
It’s normal for teachers to take observations of children during play. That’s the way we figure out where they are developmentally and what they may need help with to reach the next step. I’ve tried many different ways over the years . I’ve been doing learning stories for three years now and absolutely love them.
I take little notes throughout the week of things that children have done. Quotes of things that they say. Milestones they meet. Children that they play with. List is in less. Whenever I see something that Sparks my curiosity about a child I write it down. If another person was to find this piece of paper honestly they probably wouldn’t know what it is because I chicken scratch all over it
.
On Thursday night I pull all my notes out and begin to put my stories together. Learning stories are way to validate the learning that children are doing while they play but telling it in a format of a story. The story is written to the child. Sometimes the stories are ongoing.
I try to do special pages for holidays or parties but most of the book is personalized completely for your child.
It’s actually One of the favorite parts of my job. I’ve always told my family that I want to be known as a memory maker. Doing learning stories not only validates the learning that takes place but it’s documenting memories of the time we have here together.
