In today’s exploration we took a picture – and talked.
The picture was an invitation to promote children to think about the possibilities. I simply said “What is going on?”
The confused looks on their faces were comical at times.
“He’s sad. He lost his face .”
Me- “ How do you know he’s sad? When I look at your face and it looks like this (sad face) I know you are sad. Your mouth is usually turned down. I can’t see his mouth. How can I know if he’s sad .”
Many were very matter of fact – like -IF YOU LOST YOUR FACE WOULDN’T YOU BE SAD?”
There’s no denying that.
Nayomi – the oldest said “ I think he’s proud .” Hmm. Why ?
“ Look at his clothes. His shirt , his jacket and his hat .”
That’s some pretty sharp reasoning right there. ❤️
Part of being a teacher that practices the Reggio Emilia philosophy is research of my own. What makes some kids think the way they do ? What can I learn from their responses?
We also did our first directed drawing today. It’s a pumpkin!
How do we determine someone’s identity if we don’t have a base to refer to can we draw conclusions based on other features?
