Who remembers that we called markers “magic markers” back in the day? I’m not really sure why they were called “magic markers” but introducing markers today had us revisiting that concept. I talked about the fact that Mr. marker has a magic hat and if the hat doesn’t go back on the marker it will lose its magic.
We used our markers to take a walk around the paper. We walked fast.
I’ve ordered several books that I will use as we introduce Her art materials but the one for today has not made it in yet. Luckily, you can find almost anything on YouTube. Today we watched a quick video reading of a line.
I showed the children a drawing from Van Gogh and we talked about the squiggly lines in the art piece and then we practiced. There was no right or wrong.
We also started Heggerty … The kids call it the purple book. I will introduce this in many segments throughout the year. But for conversation today ask your child to sing the “ Itsy bitsy spider” with you. That was out nursery rhyme today.
The book I ordered for open house finally came in today and everyone got one. Royce and Brantley were super excited. Remember – good readers are not made in preschool or even kindergarten. Good readers are made in the laps of parents.
If you’re not here today I slid yours in your cubby for safekeeping.
It was a good day. While the children were playing happily this morning for a few moments I did more intentional sanitizing with thieves cleaner. We wash our hands appropriately many times throughout the day. I clean continually throughout the day and use our hospital grade sanitizer in the afternoon. I don’t really know what else I can do to keep us safe. But I’ll keep trying.
