The children’s favorite “toy” still remains a $1 stack of disposable cups.
The way I taught years ago –
30 degrees outside and I am doing a unit on ” ice ” we freeze toys in ice for the kids to excavate.
We set a cube of ice out in a bowl inside to see what will happen.
We feel ice … is it cold.
Duh 😒
Now , even on bitter cold days we try to go outside.
We find our toys frozen in ice.
We lay ice on the sidewalk and come back. It’s gone. Where did it go ?
We feel the ice . It is cold.
Same concepts but they occur naturally through play.
As a teacher that practices play based learning it’s my job to observe and even document what I see and hear and help support the learning. Learning that is driven by children will have greater outcomes in the long run.
