Christmas memories.
What is in your memory bank from Christmases past? As a child I can honestly tell you that I remember two gifts. I’l probably remember those gifts because I’ve seen pictures of them. One was a little puppy dog and the other was a very hard doll about 3 foot tall. I try more and more every year to focus on making memories with my family and my kids than buying them things. I would challenge you to do that as well this year.  These kiddos are young enough that you’re setting a precedent for what all other Christmases look like- so these can be the years that make or break you. I have seen some people have traditions of the four gift rule. They give their children something they want, something they can use, something they can read and something they can wear. I wish I had started that long ago.
I can tell you as I put my Christmas tree up with each ornament I was reminded of a time in life or a vacation, or an achievement. Every year I get my grown children and my grandchildren and ornament that I give lots of thought into what it should be. Some examples – this year Preston and Cameran got a Santa on the beach. They saw the ocean for the first time. Tyler got a Carpenter bag. He built a bed for Preston this year and a few other things around the house. Danielle got a sweater ornament. I think it’s obvious that her year was spent being pregnant but she also enjoyed the new cricut she got last year and made a lot of shirts for herself and her children. It is important enough to me that they are perfect that sometimes I even order them. This year I ordered Geneviette an ornament if the great wall of China since that was her huge vacation this summer .
I say all that to remind you that these ornaments that the kids little hands are spending time making will be more important to you as the years go by. As you put your tree together each year you will be reminded of such a precious time in their life. Today we finished our Rudolph
and started a tree ornament. We quickly found out that their little fingers were not ready to twist pipe cleaners on to a craft sick. It’s important to me that they do the majority of the work on these ornaments so we adjusted our plan. I mean, you don’t wanna look back years later at an ornament that your child’s preschool teacher made , right ? Hopefully the new way of making the tree ornament will work.
We also did a little bit of gingerbread decorating today. Accompanied by a lot of eating candy. You’ll be happy to know that these gingerbread houses or mainly for process and not for product and they have went to the gingerbread demolition site 😳
