One of the obligations or requirements for ABC funding is that within 45 days we do a baseline assessment of each of the children. We use a tool called DIAL 3. It’s just an overall glance at some foundational skills the children may have or may not have yet.
One of the biggest things that we look for are motor delays or children that may need speech support. Before referring our children to the educational co-op this assessment has to be done. We generally try to do ours pretty quickly so that we get in line for early appointments during the day. If a child does need extra support educational specialist come here to my home for their therapy.
Today while the children were playing so calmly outside we completed much of the assessments that can be done in a more casual atmosphere. We did things like body parts, counting, ABC song, and a few other skills.
The next step will be bringing out some materials such as blocks shapes and pictures that we use during the assessment. We will probably do those the early part of next week.
My favorite piece of the day. I had a water bottle outside. Holly had went inside to get the kids bottles. Hazel asked for a drink. I said ” Holly has gone to get your water bottle .” She replied ” can I have a drink of yours ?” I said ” No , we don’t share drinks. That passes germs .” Her reply was ” sharing is caring …” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
