Today is very typical of fall weather. To me there is something rather calming and beautiful about it. This week we are talking about fall and all the changes that take place. When you say ” Fall is coming ” do the children look to the door as though a person is about to waltz in ? Do they know it is a season ?
Today we sorted small, medium and large leaves.
We made a GEOmeTREE. 🙂 A tree decorated with shapes in the colors of fall. As we placed them on our tree I recorded and did a little assessing. Almost all of the children know squares, triangles, and circles. Some of them were a little shaky on the rectangle and the oval. When you see these shapes at home in every day life point them out. The fridge is usually a rectangle . Maybe your bathtub is an oval ?
Some of the kids made water color trees with a tape resist. After the paint is tree we will pull the tape off to see a design underneath.
There were buttons to sort. I remember one of my favorite things to do as a little girl was get my moms button tin down and play with her buttons.
There was a shadow play game with leafs to enjoy.
It was a good day. It is never really calm here but it wasnt chaotic either. That my friends means we are getting settled in a little more each day.
