Today we visited Jamaica using our imaginations and the pictures and artifacts that Randy and I brought back from our trip. The kids loved the wooden head. Jamiaca is known for it’s wood art. The head is a little scary but very interesting. William took it and said ” Hey, this is weird. Are YOU looking at ME?” We listened to a Jamaican man read ” a excerpt from a Dr Suess book and learned a little about their life. Jamaica was my favorite stop on our cruise. I love seeing the non- commercialized sections of the island. For instance , seeing a woman walk her goat to the market. At the arts and crafts area we stopped at the people beg for your business . I heard constantly ” you will be my first customer this morning!” ( And another tour bus left just before we arrived. )
The kids are bringing home a pencil I picked up for them in Jamaica . It has a l traditional ladies head on the top . Maybe they could practice writing their hames at home . ( Remember do not teach ALL CAPS. We encourage them to make the first letter upper case and the rest lower case. )
Danielle did a cooking experience with them today and made simple Jamaican bread . It was made from flour and spices and raisins. I had to taste one straight out of the oven and it was YUMMY! ( Hint… ingredients must be measured. 8 ounces of flour is not one cup .)
