What a Wonderful World….

I see trees of green…….. red roses too
I see em bloom….. for me and for you
And I think to myself…. what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue….. clouds of white
Bright blessed days….dark sacred nights
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin.. how do you do
They’re really sayin……i love you.

I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more…..than I’ll never know
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world

Ever once in a while in the middle of a normal day you can slow down and listen to children learning and growing.  Today was one of those days.  For the most part it was without preschool drama  and all my friends were playing and interacting with love and our world was calm.  I love love days like this.  Dont get me wrong , I am also one of those people that feeds off hustle and stress but I adore days I can listen to my kids and learn while they learn.

We had some new puzzles we put together.  Sometimes it required teamwork. It is important for preschoolers ( or anyone ) to learn that when you get stuck it is ok to ask for help. It isnt ok to give up but we have so many friends around us that can lend a hand. Sweet to watch it happen.

Sometimes we are learning so fast that I cant keep up and the kids have to ask me to come look.

Look Ms Debbie, what does this say ?  Well…. you tell me Lyndee, I see your name  What else did you write?

Or look it is a T like in MY name !

Fernando Jr and Katelyn were playing a game called King and Queen.  He was explaining hat two people can play.

Lilly enjoyed playing with the new playdoh Ms Dallas made . There is white for the clouds, gray for the road and green for the grass, to go with our transportation unit !

We also did emergent reader books.  These books have repetitive text on each page and it is predictable.  Ask your child to ” read” it to you.   Encourage them to use their finger to follow along with each word on the page.  Reading books like this gives us confidence to tackle real reading when it is time.  One of my favorite things to do is to walk up on a child that is ” reading ” a book aloud.  What imaginations and great language they all have.

Speaking of literacy – one of the important goals of preschool is for the kids to realize that all the letters that we talk about and the words that I show them has meaning. That print as meaning and it isnt just a bunch of jumbled up shapes and lines.  I realize they ” get it” when Emily announces that it is her birthday ( the new girl !)  and her friend Julia runs into the art center and starts making a card.  She asks me how to spell Emily’s name and I point it out on the cubbies.  A few minutes later Emily runs excited that she has a birthday card. PRINT HAS MEANING !

instead of sorting the lot of cars I have today we made patterns with them.

I know that Lyndee ends up in a lot of pictures and videos.  We really do try to be fair but many of the kids shy away when I grab the camera.  Lyndee…is not one of those. I am pretty sure she will have paparrazi when she gets older .

During circle time today we did our music and we looked at a picture of a semi-truck.  We talked about what might be in the truck.  ” Boxes of kittens” or  ” frogs.”  Im not sure why they assumed that animals would be in the truck .  I told them that many of the things we buy at Walmart come to the store on a truck like that.  I also said  I love to see a truck of cows.  We talked about what the cows may be thinking when they pass a car.  We also discussed chicken trucks. I said ” when I see a chicken truck I get sad.. does anyone know why.”  Katelyn piped up  ” Yeah.. because they are going to Walmart to be cooked and made in to tiny chicken nuggets. Yep..

If you spend any time hanging out with little kids you know how funny they are.  This morning the weather was a little crazy outside and we talked about tornados and I said ” What would you do if a tornado was headed to your house.?” I was looking for go to a safe place or get in the bathtub , which is what many of them do. One little girl said ” Pray to Jesus.”  Looks like she has her priorities in order.

I guess the kids are getting excited about our Mommy and Me Tea party this Sunday.  They set up their own little tea party upstairs.
