Monday Monday….

We tried our first art project today.  I wrote the kids names with a write crayon on a white sheet of paper and let them water color over the top of their name and it magically appeared  !  They loved the water colors.

Much of our artwork I keep in the classroom hanging on the walls.  Children’s spaces should be decorated with things that belong to them so they feel important and they feel their ” work ” is validated.

During circle time today we read a story called ” Pajama Pirates.”  It was about three children that fell asleep and in their dreams had a pirate adventure .  After reading the book we looked at our treasure maps and pointed out different things ( pictures  ) on it and ended with the X.  X marks the spot ! We talked about other places we might see an X – like at a railroad crossing and what sound the X makes.  If you say KISS really really fast.. that is the X sound.

Of course we did music too.  Our program is really big on using music to teach. We feel it is one of the best ways to teach a child. This week we are doing a wiggle song, Row Row Row your Boat, a Pirate Song and one of everyones favorites , ” The Tooty Ta Ta.” The “Tooty Ta Ta ”  is popular because it tells us to do silly things like close our eyes, stick out our tongue and turn around.

Do you see our X’s on the floor  ?

We went on an X hunt in our room and found four ! We counted them again to make sure they were all there and then we made the X sound four times.

We even decorated our X’s !

Today I added the IPAD to the loft. It was very popular. I have learning games loaded on the IPAD and each child has a ten minute limit to play . There are so many other options for playing that we dont want our heads stuck on a screen all day while the world and all our learning opportunities pass by us.

Also, today was our first more ” whole foods” type lunch. The kids ate pretty well. Even one or two that had not been attempting to eat. We will try it the rest of the  week and hope for good results – after all, this is more healthy than all the cream and sauce laden recipes we do in the crock pot.

IMPORTANT REMINDER – PICTURE DAY IS FRIDAY ! BRING YOUR CHILD DRESSED FOR PICTURES . THE PHOTOGRAPHER WILL BE HERE AT 830.  NO MONEY IS REQUIRED. RANDY ARE I ARE PURCHASING THE INITIAL PACKAGE FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT MORE YOU WILL TALK TO KRISTEN.
