We are having some Dr Suess fun – hun’

Today we started celebrating Dr Suess. His Birthday is March 3rd. We started with the Cat in the Hat.  Last night Randy picked up the full length movie with Micheal ” someone” ( as in not the cartoon one ) and I toyed all morning with allowing the kids some TV time to introduce The Cat in the Hat. After talking to Beth she said she had the movie and there was adult humor in it that would not be appropriate but she had the cartoon version.   The cartoon version was much shorter anyway and fit inside our 20 minute allowance of TV from quality standards. So THANKS MRS BETH for saving my booty and not letting me start to show the kids something I would have regretted ! 🙂

We made Cat in the Hat Hats – There was a LOT of teacher help in this one.  Don’t get me wrong , I am not against ALL teacher directed crafts.  There is a lot to be said about ” learning to take direction.”  There are lessons that will be important to know in kindergarten that can be learned during these activities.  For instance , one of our friends crumbled her crepe paper streamer up before we even got the glue to her to start her hat.   I did end up helping her fix the hat but there was a lesson learned to wait on the teacher for directions.

Later in the day Scarlett said , ” Look Ms Debbie, it’s like the pattern on Cat in the Hat on our bench ! ” And she was right.

The kids also had  a cooking experience  with Mr. Randy.   They made blue jello and counted out red swedish gummy fish to put inside to go along with another book we read today ” One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”  They will have that with snack along with a pepperidge farms colored goldfish .  Their place mat this afternoon will be little fish bowls with numbers on them and they will be encouraged before eating the snack to put the right number of fish in each bowl.

This is a good time for a  reminder – when you come early , your child sometimes misses a special snack or an extra part of learning like today.  The first pick ups ( the children that arrive at 7:30 ) should be picked up from 2:30 – 2:45, not 2:15 – 2:30.  We may start leaving the door closed until 2:30 to deter people from early pickups .  If your child arrives at 7:45 – 8:00 you should be picking up 2:45 – 3:00 and if you are an 8 am drop off you should be here at 3:00.  Late is anything after 3:10 .

Tomorrow is more silly fun and Friday is wacky day – wear something wacky !
